We are approaching the T-Mobile Home Run Derby and MLB All-Star Game, and this week’s Hitter Power Rankings reflect the All-Star spirit. The rankings feature ten sluggers, eight of whom have been named to the AL or NL All-Star Game roster as of Wednesday, and three are confirmed participants in the Derby.
The Hitter Power Rankings are determined by a formula from MLB.com’s data team, which evaluates players’ recent performance, season-long performance, and performance over the past year. The first two categories carry more weight in the assessment.
Aaron Judge of the Yankees has reclaimed his top spot after a brief hiatus. Over a 13-game stretch, he hit .319/.459/.766 with six home runs and 13 RBIs. Juan Soto of the Mets follows at number two, overcoming early-season struggles to rank second in OBP (.399) and eighth in OPS+ (162).
Cal Raleigh of the Mariners holds third place despite hitting only .175 over his last 12 games. Shohei Ohtani from the Dodgers is fourth; he’s made an impressive return from elbow surgery and continues to excel at bat.
James Wood of the Nationals ranks fifth. At just 22 years old, he stands out for his strong performance against left-handed pitching. Michael Busch of the Cubs enters at sixth with an outstanding OPS (.944), although not yet on the NL All-Star roster.
Byron Buxton from the Twins is seventh; he’s notable for his perfect stolen base record this season. Ketel Marte of the D-backs is eighth; he will start his second consecutive All-Star Game for the NL at second base.
Kyle Schwarber from the Phillies makes his debut in ninth place, balancing strikeouts with an elite walk rate and power hitting. Pete Alonso of the Mets rounds out the top ten with a strong comeback since June.
Honorable mentions include Riley Greene (Tigers), Ronald Acuña Jr. (Braves), Seiya Suzuki (Cubs), Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Blue Jays), George Springer (Blue Jays), Brent Rooker (Athletics), Kyle Tucker (Cubs), Yandy Díaz (Rays), Jo Adell (Angels), and Kyle Stowers (Marlins).
