Kyle Schwarber hit two home runs, including a grand slam, as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Baltimore Orioles 13-3 at Citizens Bank Park. The grand slam marked Schwarber’s 40th home run of the season, making him the fastest player in franchise history to reach that milestone. He accomplished this feat in the team’s 112th game, surpassing Ryan Howard’s pace from his record-setting 2006 season.
Harrison Bader also contributed with a three-run homer in the sixth inning, his first hit since joining the Phillies. Bader’s home run broke a 3-3 tie before Schwarber followed with his grand slam later in the same inning. The Phillies scored eight runs in that frame, their highest-scoring inning of the season.
Schwarber is now on track for 57 home runs this year, putting him within reach of Howard’s single-season club record of 58 homers set in 2006. His performance has sparked “M-V-P” chants from fans at Citizens Bank Park and strengthened his case for league honors. With 40 home runs, Schwarber leads the National League by two over Shohei Ohtani and trails MLB leader Cal Raleigh by two.
The Phillies’ offense produced six home runs during the game. In addition to Schwarber and Bader, Bryce Harper hit a solo shot in the first inning, while Edmundo Sosa and Weston Wilson hit back-to-back homers in the eighth.
