Four Different Goalscorers Pace Men's Soccer Past John Jay

The Arcadia University men's soccer team rolled past John Jay, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Jean Lenox West Field.

The Knights used four second half goals from four different goal scorers to secure their fourth victory of the year.

For the second consecutive game, Giancarlo Ciotoli found the back of the net, scoring the opener in the Knights' victory. Ciotoli also added an assist in the victory.

Chris Fletcher scored his first goal of the season. First year's Declan Kelly and Jonathan Matthews scored their first career collegiate goals in the win.

Matthew Clevenger tallied the first two assists of his career on the Knights last two goals of the game.

As a team, the Knights outshot John Jay, 27-0, including 13-0 in shots on goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Ciotoli opened the scoring with his team-leading fourth goal of the year. The first-year midfielder broke the 0-0 tie in the 64th minute after Fletcher sent a cross into the box that was then squared across goal by Nathaniel Sellers, and finished into the top left corner by Ciotoli.
  • The Knights only needed just over a minute of game time to extend their lead to 2-0. Fletcher scored his first of the year in the 65th minute off a feed from Ciotoli.
  • Kelly found the back of the net in the 85th minute as Clevenger played Kelly through on goal. The first-year midfielder then dribbled around a defender and finished into the bottom right corner for his first collegiate goal.
  • Matthews closed out the scoring for the Knights in the 90th minute. The ball was sent into the box to Clevenger who had his shot blocked, but Matthews was right there to finish into the wide-open net for his first career goal.
