Researchers from the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn's Perelman School of Medicine are set to present their findings on advancements in cancer research and medicine at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting 2025. The event is scheduled to take place from April 25 to April 30 in Chicago. Attendees and the public can follow updates through Penn Medicine's social media channels and the PennMD Forum.

Opportunities for expert interviews are available during the conference. Interested parties can arrange these through Meagan Raeke, who can be contacted via email at Meagan.Raeke@pennmedicine.upenn.edu or by phone at 267-693-6224.

Significant developments include four cancer researchers from Penn who have been elected to the AACR Academy. Among key presentations, M. Celeste Simon, the Arthur H. Rubenstein, MBBCh Professor in Cell and Developmental Biology, will discuss the targeting of metabolism to potentially cure liver and other cancers. Her presentation is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, in the Discovery Science Plenary session.

Shelley L. Berger, awarded the 2025 AACR-Women in Cancer Research Charlotte Friend Lectureship, will deliver a lecture on Tuesday, April 29. Berger holds titles at both the Perelman School of Medicine and the School of Arts & Sciences at the university.

In addition to primary presentations, several Penn research trainees will lead discussions in Minisymposia. Christina Demetriadou will address amino acid metabolism in pancreatic cancer, emphasizing the connection between metabolism and epigenetics. Gianna T. Busch will present research on overcoming resistance in melanoma treatments, and Margo I. Orlen will speak on T-cell involvement in pancreatic cancer therapy responses.

The meeting will also include over 20 poster sessions featuring various research abstracts from ACC, addressing topics such as radiotherapy effects, CAR T cell engineering, and genomic profiling in breast cancer patients.
