On June 10th, the Temple Health LGBTQ Inclusive Care Alliance held a Pride month celebration at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine’s Medical Education and Research Building. The event brought together team members from both the Health System and the School of Medicine.

Amy Goldberg, MD, FACS, The Marjorie Joy Katz Dean of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, spoke about the significance of Pride. “Pride is about the shared belief that everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and valued for who they are,” she said. “As a Temple family, we are committed to making sure everyone has access—not just to opportunity, but to care, to community, and to a sense of belonging.”

Dr. Robert Bettiker introduced Dean Goldberg at the event. Dr. Bettiker serves as Co-Director of the Temple Health LGBTQ Inclusive Care Alliance and is a Professor of Medicine at Katz. Additional remarks were made by Laura Douglass, MD, Assistant Professor of Urology at Katz, and Alireza Hamidian Jahromi, MD, Assistant Professor of Surgery at Katz. Dr. Hamidian Jahromi emphasized their exceptional adult LGBTQ care and expressed gratitude for the leaders’ expertise.

Ellie Wasserman, LSW, Program Manager of the Adult Gender-Affirming Surgery Program at Temple Health also expressed pride in her team’s work during this celebration. “I’m proud to be on a team that realizes that this is lifesaving care,” she stated.
