The American Thoracic Society (ATS) International Conference, held in San Francisco from May 18-21, featured significant contributions from the Temple Lung Center. The conference is a prominent event for sharing advancements in respiratory science and patient care.
The Temple Lung Center, recognized as a leading lung disease research center in the United States, was well-represented with over 30 faculty and fellows participating in more than 50 sessions. Gerard J. Criner, MD, FACP, FACCP, Director of the Temple Lung Center and Chair and Professor of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, participated in two mini symposiums on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Dr. Criner’s presentations focused on clinical trials assessing mepolizumab’s impact on COPD patients and targeted lung denervation.
Another notable session was hosted by Nathaniel Marchetti, DO, Medical Director of the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit at Temple University Hospital. Dr. Marchetti discussed bronchoscopic lung volume reduction (BLVR), suggesting new physiological markers for evaluating patient outcomes.
Rohit Gupta, MD, Director of the Sarcoidosis Program at Temple University Hospital led a popular “Meet the Expert” session on pulmonary sarcoidosis management. Krunal Patel, MD presented data from the FLASH registry on medical thrombectomy for intermediate-risk pulmonary embolisms during another discussion session.
Rachel N. Criner, MD showcased her work with a poster presentation at the conference.
The Temple Lung Center also had a presence in the exhibit hall where their Key Account Management and Marketing teams highlighted recent achievements and promoted upcoming events such as the GOLD Conference later this year. A networking reception was also organized to celebrate research accomplishments.
