Temple University Hospital’s patient, Jesus Lopez from North Jersey, was diagnosed with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), a rare condition characterized by persistent blood clots in the lung arteries. This diagnosis led him to Temple Health, which houses the largest CTEPH center in the Eastern U.S., and to Dr. Anjali Vaidya, Co-Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension, Right Heart Failure & CTEPH Program at Temple University Hospital.

In 2019, Lopez underwent a surgical procedure known as pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE) to remove these clots. He shared with abc7 that prior to this surgery, he was apprehensive about starting a family due to his health concerns. However, following his recovery and improved health post-surgery, he felt confident about becoming a parent. His son was born in August, and he is looking forward to celebrating his first Father’s Day this June.
