Physicians at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine have developed a new screening tool for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) that could enhance early detection. This innovative approach, detailed in a study published online on April 5 in the American Heart Journal, involves a virtual echocardiography screening tool (VEST) integrated into electronic medical record systems. The tool provides accurate PAH risk scores without requiring manual calculations.
Dr. Anjali Vaidya, Co-Director of the Advanced Pulmonary Hypertension, Right Heart Failure & Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension Program at Temple University Hospital, led the research. Medical Xpress covered this development.
The novel method is the first of its kind in pulmonary vascular medicine and aims to streamline the diagnostic process for PAH.
