Mabinty Sesay, RN, a nurse on Potter Morris Unit 5 at Temple University Hospital – Episcopal Campus, has been recognized with the DAISY Award for her leadership and commitment to patient care.

According to the nomination submitted for her award, “In every interaction, Mabinty embodies Temple Health’s values of respect, service, and quality. Her dedication elevates the care experience for both patients and colleagues across the unit.”

Sesay is noted for her role in mentoring new nurses. The nomination stated: “Mabinty is a true leader on our team. One of her greatest strengths is how she mentors and supports new nurses and new hires. She guides them with a nurturing, motherly approach, creating a safe and supportive environment where they can build confidence and thrive. Mabinty patiently teaches clinical best practices, encourages open dialogue, and fosters teamwork and accountability. Many new nurses credit her mentorship as a key factor in their success after orientation. She serves as a role model in every sense, demonstrating that leadership is about lifting others up.”

The recognition also highlighted Sesay’s patient-centered approach: “Mabinty consistently goes above and beyond to create a therapeutic and healing environment for our patients. She takes the time to get to know all 25 patients on the unit, learning about their individual stressors, challenges, and needs. By understanding each patient on a personal level, Mabinty is able to tailor care and interventions to support their wellbeing throughout their stay. This proactive, compassionate approach fosters trust, reduces anxiety, and contributes to a more positive and healing experience for patients and their families.”

Sesay’s actions were further described in terms of Temple Health’s mission: “Mabinty lives the values of respect, service, and quality in all she does.
