The Times Leader recently featured the health journey of Lauren Chapple, a collegiate soccer player from the Wilkes Barre-Scranton area. Lauren threw out the first pitch at the I Heart Phillies game on July 21. She received a diagnosis of Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH) at Temple Health. Anjali Vaidya, MD, Director of the Advanced Pulmonary Hypertension, Right Heart Failure & CTEPH Program at Temple University Hospital, recommended pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE) surgery for her condition.

Yoshiya Toyoda, MD, PhD, Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at TUH, performed Lauren’s surgery in August 2024. Lauren was Temple’s 453rd PTE surgery patient as the hospital approaches its 500th such procedure. The Times Leader interviewed Lauren Chapple along with Dr. Vaidya and Dr. Toyoda for their article.
