Herbert Adderley was born on June 8, 1939
Herbert Adderley, born June 8, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was a standout athlete at Northeast High School, earning All-City honors in four sports. He played college football at Michigan State, where he led the team in rushing and receiving, and co-captained in his senior year. Drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 1961, Adderley was converted from halfback to cornerback and helped lead the team to five NFL championships and two Super Bowl victories. He later joined the Dallas Cowboys, adding a third Super Bowl title. He played in four of the first six Super Bowls and totaled 48 career interceptions. Adderley was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1980 and is also honored by the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame. He died on October 30, 2020. Despite his success in Dallas, Adderley always identified with Green Bay, where his defensive legacy was defined.
