Tyler Hagstrom, recognized as the Patriot League Coach of the Year, has been appointed head volleyball coach at the University of Pennsylvania. His previous tenure at Bucknell was marked by a 21-5 record in 2024 and a school-record of 13 wins in the Patriot League.
“We are thrilled to welcome Tyler to University City as our new head volleyball coach,” said Alanna Wren, T. Gibbs Kane, Jr. W’69 Director of Athletics and Recreation. She added that Hagstrom’s experience with winning teams at high-academic institutions makes him an ideal leader for Penn volleyball.
Hagstrom expressed his enthusiasm about his new role: “I’m incredibly honored and excited to be named the head women’s volleyball coach at the University of Pennsylvania.” He thanked Athletic Director Alanna Wren and Senior Woman Administrator Rachel Kuperinsky for their trust during the hiring process.
Hagstrom’s career highlights include leading Bucknell to its best season since 1995 and ranking third nationally in digs per set in 2023. Before Bucknell, he contributed to Princeton’s three Ivy League titles as an assistant coach.
His coaching career began at UC Irvine, followed by a stint at Grand Canyon University. A former libero, Hagstrom played on three NAIA national championship teams at California Baptist. He holds degrees from Cal Baptist and Concordia University.
Hagstrom will relocate to Philadelphia with his family, including his wife Nina and their children Dylan, Camila, and Lucas.
