Acker’s Five Goals Lead Women’s Lacrosse over Gwynedd Mercy

County of Montgomery issued the following announcement on Mar. 23.

Skylar Acker finished with a game-high five goals to lead the Arcadia University women's lacrosse team to a 14-7 victory over Gwynedd Mercy in non-conference action from Jean Lenox West Field on Wednesday evening.

 

The Knights improved to 3-6 with the victory.

 

Arcadia registered the first six goals as it sprinted out of the gate with an early lead. Morganne Dee found the back of the net with 12:32 on the clock, followed less than a minute later by Hannah McAllister at 11:44. Acker got on the board at 10:44 with Dee scoring for a second time with 5:20 remaining in the first quarter. Acker broke through a second time at 4:18 with an assist from Ashley Starkey before Starkey got herself in the scoring column with 3:38 on the clock. Gwynedd Mercy finished the scoring as the Knights led 6-1 after the first quarter.

 

Maddie Ruger scored an unassisted goal in a man-up situation at 11:19 followed 12 seconds later by Acker's third tally of the contest. The Griffins scored back-to-back goals to cut the lead to 8-3 with 3:03 left in the half, and that is where the score remained as the horn sounded sending both teams to halftime.

 

Acker scored a man-up goal just 27 seconds into the third quarter followed at 11:42 by another Starkey score. After Gwynedd Mercy cut the lead to 10-4 with 11:19 remaining in the third, Arcadia scored four in a row coming from Olivia Poley, Acker, and two from Ruger pushing the lead to 14-4. The Griffins finished the game with three consecutive scores.

 

Ruger finished with three goals while Starkey contributed two goals and an assist and Dee added two goals.

 

Emily Griffith stopped 13 shots across three quarters before Mariya Occorso finished the contest with three saves.

 

The Knights return to action on Wednesday when they host King's College to open Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play at 7:00 p.m.
