Youth baseball

Arcadia University Athletics issued the following announcement on Apr. 12.

The No. 8/14 Arcadia University baseball team got the win at Elizabethtown College on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game by a 5-3 final.

The Knights improved to 25-4 with the win.

Arcadia started off the game with a single from Hunter Curley to left-center, who moved to second on a groundout. Justin Massielo then hit a double down the left field line bringing home Curley, and Massielo advanced on wild pitch and scored on Connor Cheeseman's sacrifice fly.

Elizabethtown cut Arcadia's lead in the bottom of the first inning making the score 2-1.

The Knights extended the lead in the top of the third when Smolen reached on a one-out single and scored two batters later when Cheeseman doubled to left-center.

Nick Bon Tempo led off for Arcadia in the fifth inning with a hit by pitch, followed by Curley with  a single up the middle advancing Bon Tempo to second. Smolen sacrificed the runners advancing both of them up a base and after Massielo was intentionally walked, Cheeseman brought Bon Tempo in to score with a groundout.

Elizabethtown scored another run in the fifth inning making the score 4-2.

Arcadia furthered its lead in the top of the eighth inning when Matthew Sot singled to right field, stole second and third, and scored on Zachary Sekelick's single to right to finish the scoring for the Knights.

Elizabethtown added a third run in the bottom of the eighth inning to reach the final score.

Tyler Costaro got the win in relief for the Knights, allowing one run, scattering three hits with zero walks and two strikeouts. Owen Margolis earned his sixth save, pitching a scoreless final inning with one strikeout. Zach Steiger started on the mound going four innings, surrendering one run on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

The Knights return to action on Friday when they host Delaware Valley University for a 3:00 p.m. Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) game at Skip Wilson field.
