Gladwyne School issued the following announcement on April 6
Usually, the Friday before Spring Break is an exciting day, as students bid farewell to their teachers and classmates for a week and head home to spend time with family, take vacations or celebrate holidays. As we all know, this year everything is different. Students have been home for just over three weeks now and we don't know when or if they will be returning to our buildings this school year.
Nonetheless, I encourage you to try to take a "Spring Break" during the upcoming week. To help you, we have created a "Staycation" page on our District website. It includes links to many interesting and fun virtual escapes that families can enjoy – including tours of museums, zoos, National Parks, even rides at Walt Disney World. We've also included links to online learning opportunities outside of our regular curriculum. We hope you will explore and enjoy these resources, while continuing to maintain the physical distance and following the health guidelines that will help us return to "normal" as soon as it is safe to do so.
As a reminder, LMSD will continue to provide free meals to children over Spring Break. The meals will be distributed on Monday, April 6 and Wednesday, April 8 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Suburban Square Parking lot at Montgomery and Anderson Avenues. Registration for meals is requested, but not mandatory. Click here to sign up. I am grateful to our Nutritional Services staff, Operations staff and school nurses who have worked together to distribute more than 9800 meals since March 17 and who will continue to work over the break to provide this important service to our community.
Finally, I want to thank everyone for your patience and support as our District has transitioned to remote learning. Our teachers and administrators have worked tirelessly to adapt so quickly to entirely new ways of reaching and engaging students. Our parents and guardians, many of whom are working from home, have supported not only their own children and but also each other throughout this unprecedented time. We are even helping the wider community by using our 3D printers to make face shield headbands for health care workers.
Ever since I joined the Lower Merion School District, I have been proud of our community. But these past few weeks have taken that pride to an entirely new level. We will get through thistogether. I look forward to "seeing" everyone back in virtual school on Monday, April 13, 2020.
