Penn Medicine initiated the construction of a new outpatient facility in Montgomeryville, Montgomery County. The new facility, spanning 162,000 square feet over four stories, is set to open in late 2027.
The site will expand health care access in Montgomery and Bucks counties, offering comprehensive cancer care among other specialized services. Kevin B. Mahoney, CEO of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, stated, "By bringing advanced, lifesaving services closer to patients, especially those undergoing cancer therapy that can last for months, we're not just enhancing accessibility—we're transforming the entire treatment journey."
Located at 200 DeKalb Pike in North Wales, the new facility aims to simplify access by bringing multiple specialists under one roof. It will include primary care, dermatology, and more, along with services like imaging and laboratory facilities. Another focus of the center is environmental stewardship, aiming for LEED Gold certification.
This development is a crucial part of Penn Medicine's sustainability initiative. Their goal is a 50 percent reduction in operational carbon emissions by 2030, with net-zero carbon emissions by 2042. The facility's design includes a 530-ton geothermal system as the primary energy source and the use of low-carbon concrete.
Penn Medicine Montgomeryville will be one of several multispecialty ambulatory sites operated by the institution, with similar facilities in other locations across Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
