FOIA Request to Philadelphia County Election Department Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at East Montgomery Times have sent a formal request to the Philadelphia County Election Department. The request was made under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq., with a preference for receiving the records in an electronic format.
Our request includes obtaining a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. Specifically, we have asked for each candidate's first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; their jurisdiction; and their party affiliation.
In addition to this basic information about each candidate, we have also requested contact details for each individual. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization, our role is to gather and report news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe that as media professionals involved in disseminating information, we are eligible for a fee waiver.
