Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has announced that two of its esteemed cancer researchers, Dr. Garrett M. Brodeur and Dr. Stephan A. Grupp, have been elected to the 2025 class of Fellows of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Academy.
The AACR Academy annually honors scientists whose work has significantly advanced cancer research. It recognizes these individuals as part of a global network committed to improving communication, advocacy, and funding for cancer research.
Dr. Brodeur, Director of the Cancer Predisposition Program at CHOP and Professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine, is acknowledged for his contributions to neuroblastoma research. His achievements include identifying MYCN amplification as a high-risk marker and developing an International Neuroblastoma Staging System with molecular markers.
Dr. Grupp serves as Section Chief of Cellular Therapy and Transplant Section and Inaugural Director of the Kelly Center for Cancer Immunotherapy at CHOP. He is recognized for his role in developing CAR T-cell therapy for pediatric patients, which led to FDA approval for treating B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Fellows are selected through a peer-reviewed process evaluating their impact on cancer research globally. The Class of 2025 adds 33 new members to the AACR Academy, totaling 375 Fellows. Drs. Brodeur and Grupp will be inducted at the AACR Annual Meeting in Chicago from April 25-30.
